By downloading, installing, or using Iris ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the App. If you are a parent or guardian agreeing for a performer under 18, you are the contracting party.
Iris is an iOS app for actors to record, edit, and share self-tape auditions. There is no Mac app in this release, and no universal purchase that covers a Mac. The App does not require an account or login. It identifies a device, not a personal profile. Optional Pro features are sold as auto-renewing Apple subscriptions.
You retain full ownership of everything you create with the App, including your recordings and edits. Sides you attach to a Remote Reader session (PDF, RTF, or text) are yours as well. This release does not include a separate script-import mode in the rehearsal screens. Iris does not claim any rights to your content. Video and sides are stored temporarily to enable sharing features (see Section 5 and Section 14) and are not used for any purpose beyond providing the service to you.
You agree not to use the App to record, store, or share content that is illegal, infringes on someone else's rights, or is intended to harass or harm another person. You're responsible for having the right to record and share any material you use with the App, including copyrighted sides. You're responsible for anyone you invite to a review link or Remote Reader session, including when the performer is a minor.
The App lets you generate links to share your recordings with others (such as agents or casting directors). A review link is created to expire 24 hours after it is created. Until then, anyone with the URL can watch and leave notes. Submitting feedback does not turn the link off. Creating a new link for the same device and project name does turn older live URLs off, unless the clips are unchanged and the App reuses the same link. If the App does not send a device identifier, older URLs stay live. An iPhone and a Mac are different devices, so they do not turn each other off. The person who created the link can try to expire it earlier from the Link Ready screen in the App (Expire Link). That deletes the video if the delete succeeds. If the delete fails, the link stays open, including when a new link is trying to turn an older one off. After the 24-hour window, opening the page does not play the video. A failed cleanup can leave the file, or the written note, or both, on the server past that window. The Privacy Policy describes which failure leaves which one.
You are responsible for who you share these links with. Once a link is sent, Iris cannot control what the recipient does with the content. Don't share links with anyone you don't trust with that content, especially if it includes a performer under 18.
The App uses third-party infrastructure to operate, including cloud storage, live media transport, push notifications, and basic analytics. Details on what data is collected and how it's handled are in our Privacy Policy.
The Iris name, logo, and app design are the property of Gavin Etmanski. You may not copy, reproduce, or use these for your own purposes without permission. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or try to extract the source code of the App, except where a statute says that limit is not allowed.
The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that it will meet your specific needs. You use the App at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Iris and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to lost recordings, missed auditions, or issues arising from shared content.
We reserve the right to discontinue or modify the App or any of its features at any time.
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The current version is always at selftapestudio.io/terms.
Iris offers a Free tier and a paid Pro tier. Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple is the merchant of record. We do not receive your card number.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel in your App Store account settings (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on iPhone). We cannot cancel a subscription for you. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by the developer.
Restore Purchases is available on the paywall if you reinstall or change devices.
Performers under 18 may use the App. If the performer is under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms and supervise use. If the performer is under 13, a parent or guardian must set up and operate the App.
The parent or guardian is the contracting party and, if Pro is purchased, the subscription purchaser. You are responsible for review links and Remote Reader sessions that include a minor’s image or voice, including who receives those URLs. A parent who wants a review link deleted must send the URL. A name alone cannot locate it. See the Privacy Policy and Support.
Remote Reader lets you invite someone to watch your live camera and read with you in a browser. You may attach sides (PDF, RTF, or text) for that session. Their microphone audio may be recorded into your take on your device. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required from anyone you invite, and for telling them that their voice may be recorded. Do not invite a reader if you cannot do that, including when the performer on camera is a minor.
New joiners can use the share link for 30 minutes after you create the session. Ending the session on the phone disconnects the room. If the phone drops out of the live room, the session can also close after about two minutes. Sides you attach are shown to the reader for the life of that session, and we try to delete those files when the session ends.
Pro is for one person: the person who bought it from Apple. There is no actor account on our servers, and no login you can hand to someone else. The App recognises a device identifier, not a shared username. Do not share an App Store purchase so that other people can use Pro. Unlimited use of Pro, where a feature is unlimited, means unlimited for that person, not unlimited for everyone who can open the same Apple ID.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in British Columbia have exclusive jurisdiction, except where applicable consumer law in your place of residence says you may bring a claim there.
